A Museum Curator named Friendly Dude (Josh)
Skull Sorceress, Silver Sword (Maddy)
Vampiress Vaniseeka (Taylor)
Messenger Faerie of Fairness (Lil' Ian)
Mr. Sunshine, "For Hire" (Big Ian)
Synopsis:
Intro. Friendly Dude needs to hurry to the museum with some new artifacts he has aquired. It seems to be taking forever to cross the busy street and he notices that a very old man is having the same trouble. Always one to be civil and dutiful, Friendly Dude takes the old man's arm and offers to help him cross the street. They cross and as taxi cabs come to screeching halt, Friendly Dude boasts to the old man about how helpful he tends to be. When it is time to part, Friendly Dude whistles away and we see that the old man has pick pocketed him. With a $50 bill in hand the old man states "I, Old Wizard Bandit, never cease to get richer and richer. Ah ha ha ha, ah ha ha ha...!" He cackles while dancing a celebratory jig.
I. Friendly Dude arrives at the museum and begins to take an inventory of the new artifacts for the collection. "Ah yes, one ancient Egyptian eyeball remover for mummy making, one 19th century school room bell, one pre-world war II Belgium Chocolate Tin, one fossilized hand... Oh my!! The bill!! Where is the $50 bill imprinted by Skull Sorceress, Silver Sword? Oh heavens! I've lost one of the most powerful spells ever written in the history of the world... signed by 'Silver Sword'!! A priceless piece! No! What will I do? Ahhhhhh!!" Pacing madly back and forth, Friendly Dude finds salvation, "I know! I'll call Mr. Sunshine "For Hire"." Mr. Sunshine arrives introducing himself as the man who can do, and will do, anything and everything, "For Hire". He is more than happy to help in the search for the missing 'Silver Sword' piece, but not without a hefty charge... Friendly Dude offers him the fossilized hand and they're off.
II. In a nearby mountain range, Old Wizard Bandit is in his cave counting his monies, taking stock of his gold and jewels. At some point he tosses aside a fifty dollar bill that has writing on it. "What a waste! What kind of fool would scribble all over a perfectly useful $50 bill?" His daughter, Vampiress Vaniseeka awakens for the night. "Good morning night... good morning cave... good morning bats... good morning father! Huuhhh! FATHER! You've been stealing again!" Vaniseeka scolds him for his compulsive behavior and reminds him of his promise to her to stop his old ways. She is very disappointed. She stomps off and calls for Messenger Faerie of Fairness. "Messenger Faerie! Please go to the Skull Sorceress at once and ask her to make a spell that will change my father's thieving ways forever!" Messenger Faerie rushes off on his mission.
III. In the streets, Mr. Sunshine "For Hire" is hot on the trail of the missing magic $50 bill. He is so focused that he nearly knocks Messenger Faerie over. "Hey... what's the big idea, pal... Oh! Messenger Faerie! It's you bro! How's it going?" The two old pals bump knuckles and catch up a bit. Messenger Faerie explains that he is on his way up the mountain to visit the Skull Sorceress, Silver Sword, to obtain a spell for Vampiress Vaniseeka. Mr. Sunshine can't believe the serendipity and suggests that they pay a visit to the Sorceress together. Mr. Sunshine has some questioning for the famed Diva Sorceress. The two continue to catch up while climbing the steep trail to the Skull Sorceress' cave.
IV. Once at the cave, Silver Sword is found practicing incantations. Mr. Sunshine cuts right to the chase about the the piece she loaned to the museum taking a little vacation. Upon hearing the description of a "$50 Bill with a spell engraved upon it," Messenger Faerie has put two and two together that he might know the whereabouts of the missing piece. Stroking her pet human skull, Silver Sword is foaming at the mouth with rage upon hearing the news. She shrieks that Friendly Dude must come and see her "at once!" or else. Mr. Sunshine is startled by her dramatic reaction and rushes off to furnish Friendly Dude. Meanwhile, Messenger Faerie is hoping to resolve his business with her, and to offer the information he may have, but cannot get a word in edge wise as the diva sorceress goes on and on about her disappointment. He follows her around the cave trying to interject, but she is self-absorbed. She resolves to consult the divining eyes of the skull to find where the piece has gone. Just as she utters the final words of her divine summoning spell, Mr. Sunshine and Friendly Dude reenter the cave. "Ah-hah!" She shouts, "Old Wizard Bandit foolishly pick pocketed the spell, mistaking it for a mere $50 bill. Fool!" Messenger Faerie just shakes his head. He tried to tell her.
V. Mr. Sunshine "For Hire", Messenger Faerie, Friendly Guy and Silver Sword all take the mountain path to Old Wizard Bandit's cave. In this time, Old Wizard Bandit has realized what the imprint on the $50 bill is a spell signed by the powerful Sorceress 'Silver Sword'. Not only is Old Wizard Bandit addicted to stealing, but he has an unquenchable thirst for powerful magic. His daughter Vaniseeka has been imploring him to leave the spell alone, as the gang rushes into the cave. Silver Sword shouts at him, "Old man! Do not be a fool! If you read that spell with an impure heart, something 'bushy' will happen!" The Wizard simply will not heed warning and reads the words aloud. He is immediately transformed into a shrub (with a beard). Everyone in the cave looks apologetically at Vaniseeka, lowering their heads to pay respect. It is a shocking conclusion. So it seems! Suddenly, the bush begins to shake and out jumps a young Wizard Bandit. "It is as though I am reborn! A new man! I plan to turn over a new leaf and never steal again!" Silver Sword affirms, "...powerful magic indeed..."

Play: THE NEIGHBORS FRIGHT + THE MOONS LIGHT
All club plays are written as a group collaboration between the participants and the group leader.
October 23, 2010
THE NEIGHBORS FRIGHT AND THE MOONS LIGHT
Starring:
Sassun the Winged Frog (Finn)
Flame Breather the Fire God (Olive)
The Moon (Taylor)
Synopsis:
Intro. The Moon rises and situates herself in the sky. She gazes down to the Earth below and hones in on the abutting lands of Sassun the Winged Frog and Flame Breather the Fire God. It is clear that there is unnecessary tension and fear between the two neighbors. Fire Breather is threatened by the falls and ponds of Sassun's land because he is afraid that it's waters will extinguish his fires. Sassun keeps his distance from the brimstone and lava pools of Fire Breather's land because he is afraid the heat will parch his waters. Although they recognize one another, the neighbors don't dare traverse the distance between their homes to meet. The moon sees this and says "Something must be done".
I. Every evening when the moon rises it is supper time for the two neighbors. Fire Breather is an exquisite chef. He can braise, broil, grill, roast, scorch or sear ANYTHING just using his breath. He prepares sumptuous feasts fit for an army, but once the cooking is done, he has lost his appetite. A meal just isn't a meal enjoyed when eaten alone.
Sassun enjoys the hunt. He hops around the pond crunching and munching on water bugs, flies, mosquitoes and floating plant matter. He has his fill, but wishes for more warmth and tending at supper time. His hunting is tiring and he is left unfulfilled.
II. After supper time the two usually enjoy an evening pastime. There is nothing more satisfying for Fire Breather than playing his horse-head banjo. Fire Breather will sit by a sulfurous lava pool and pick to his hearts content. Many times Sassun will overhear the distant music and singing. His favorite thing to do is to dance! Flapping his wings and hopping wildly, his jumping jig is ecstatic. He often wishes that the music were only a bit nearer, so that the vibrations could resonate near to his heart. Fire Breather often wishes that he had an audience when he played horse-head banjo.
III. Most times, when Fire Breather is done with his evening pastime, he will tend to his fires longing to have someone to attend to. As he stares into the dancing flames, he wishes for someone to talk to. When Sassun is done with his evening pastime, he often meditates at his pond. Peering into his own reflection, he wishes the face peering back would speak. This nightly ritual is followed by sleep.
IV. On this particular evening the moon chooses to intervene. "Something must be done," she says. She fetches two small envelopes and sneaks out of the sky to the home of Sassun and then to the home of Fire Breather, leaving the envelopes on their doorsteps. The next morning the surprises are found. "It is an invitation..." States Fire Breather in a delighted manner, "...to the Equinox Masquerade Party hosted by the Moon!" Says Sassun excitedly. The two spend the whole day preparing their costumes for the party.
V. That night, the moon rises and then descends from the sky into a meadow near the fire and water lands. Met by a the masked Sassun and Fire Breather, the 3 dance and sing the night away. When too tired to carry on, the moon asks the two to remove their masks. The neighbors are shocked to see that they have been enjoying the very person they fear -- all evening long. The Moon says, "It is done..." And returns to her place in the sky. From then on Fire Breather and Sassun are freed from their fear. They can begin traversing the distance between them to meet halfway, to have the friendship they were longing for. It starts... with music and dance!

The sound gets louder and louder until suddenly we hear grating tracks and manic laughter. Doom Dozer plows over an innocent tree, past Storm and Shadow's hiding place and then sadistically crashes through another tree. As he leaves the scene, Storm and Shadow burst out of their hiding, the lion exclaims "The Wizard was right. Something very evil indeed was coming to our home. What shall we do?!" Rambo is too proud to give in to a small treaty that will bring more peace to the people sharing the forest. A heated argument is in effect. Suddenly, Poison Troll and The Ember Goblin burst in with the news they've gotten from Shadow and Storm. The Wizard is sad to hear that his premonition of evil was upon them. He pleas with Rambo and Commando to settle the disbute, put their differences aside and join the fight against Doom Dozer. Rambo is too proud and will not join forces until his terms are agreed upon in the treaty. He storms out of the room with Commando at his heels.
II. Rambo and Commando return to their base in the deep in the forest. Upon reaching the base they are shocked by what they find. The large trees that housed their families, belongings and stores have been knocked down. Rambo is in shock. He paces, not sure to feel rage or despair. The men hear a groaning sound coming from under one of the large, fallen trunks. With all of their strength, they lift the tree off of Storm and Shadow. The two injured beasts crawl out from beneath the tree and fall to the ground. "Who did this to you?!", demands Commando. Storm states coldly, "Doom Dozer". Commando pleads "Rambo, we must do something! We must stop him!" Rambo goes down to one knee, looks at the sky, saying "It will be done."
III. Rambo and Commando return to the council and agree to sign the treaty as a gesture of peace. Rambo tells the Wizard he is willing to train anyone that is willing to face Doom Dozer. The Forest Fighters are ready.
IV. Doom Dozer is making his usual rounds felling trees. "Ha! Ha! 3000 trees down in one day! A new record! Oh the dollars! Pouring in! Soon, I will be the richest man in all the land..." And then! The Ember Goblin ambushes Doom Dozer and battles with all his might. Then Storm... then Shadow... every Forest Fighter steps out and has a solo battle, but is dozed to the ground. Then The Wizard of the Forest comes out with his wand saying "This won't work, we all have to join together!" The Fighters rise up and link arms making a unified front. Doom Dozer begins to breakdown and spin out. "No! Nooooooooo!" He shrieks while the Forest Fighters chant, "This is our forest! This is our forest!" Doom Dozer is breaking down as the Fighters make a tight circle around him. As the circle opens up, we see there is nothing left but a skull. The Fighters drop their weapons and pay respect to the skull. The Wizard concludes, "Our UNITY has defeated him."

Esamaya is still watching from the clouds and conspires to create an event that will bring the princess and wizard together.
II. Once in town, Wizard Snumblesnore navigates the hustle and bustle of the market. He follows the laughter to where Royal Kingdom Clown is busking(street performing). After the performance, the wizard appeals to the clown for an ounce of good humor. The clown is more than happy to help his friend the wizard. Next, Wizard Snumblesnore approaches the Rope Charmer. After the Rope Charmer performs a masterful rope levitation act, the wizard tells him of his need for 1000 snake scales. Of course! The Rope Charmer runs off to ask his cousin the Snake Charmer for the scales. He returns promptly with a golden cask full of scales. The wizard is very grateful. Lastly, the wizard finds his friend Unicorn, a flower gardener. The wizard details the various plants needed for his potion, and Unicorn's nimble hands pick through foxgloves, borage and geraniums seeking the flowering herbs needed. She briefs Wizard Snumblesnore on the rumor that Crystal the Universal Princess would be presenting Esemaya the Bollywood Goddess at a grand gala that evening. Wizard Snumblesnore thanked Unicorn and dashed off to prepare himself for an unexpected gala that evening.
III. At the gala, Crystal the Universal Princess addresses the masses from a high balcony. She is gracious and also severe about her duties as the princess and most importantly the keeper of The Stone of Duty. She feels that it is her most important duty to provide the people of her land with the finest art in the universe. She is pleased to present a special performance from Esemaya the Bollywood Goddess. The crowd goes wild as Esemaya makes her entrance down the grand staircase. The sounds of drums and bells escort her as she bursts onto the stage into full dance. At the height of the excitment, Crystal, descends the grand staircase and begins to dance in unison with Esemaya. It is an epic performance. The crowd is utterly wow-ed.
IV. After the show, Wizard Snumblesnore approaches Esemaya and Crystal. He relates his need for the Stone of Duty. Esemaya confesses that she encouraged Crystal to host the performance to bring the wizard and the princess together. She assured Crystal that if she would let the wizard use the stone for his work, great change would occur in the dark destiny of the land. The princess is reluctant to relinquish the stone to the wizard. It is her duty to protect it. And so, with no time to waste, the wizard invites the princess to work on the potion with him. Perhaps, he will need some collaborators in this task. Outside the gala, Wizard Snumblesnore, Crystal the Universal Princess, Unicorn, Esamaya the Bollywood Goddess, Royal Kingdom Clown and
The Rope Charmer are headed in a marching procession to the castle laboratory. Once there, each of their gifts are bestowed on the potion making it even more powerful. Bathed in light, the group rejoices in the success of the potion, trusting that they will have what they need if ever threatened by Doom.

Their perfection soon changes from being alluring to being just plain creepy. Suddenly, The Mayor realizes she is turning into a plant and is trapped in place by roots. The other plants in the garden are pleased and express this avidly in creepy, high-pitched voices, "Now you can stay with us, right here in this garden, forever, and ever AND EVER AND EVER AND EVER..." The flowers keep chanting ever and ever as The Mayor awakes from the nightmare. She quickly picks up the bedside telephone to make an important call.
IV. In the final scene we are in the town hall and the distinguished, Crescendia the Concert Pianist is doing a preamble behind a podium. She is there to present the Mayor's Awards for Educational Excellence. This year the town will be presenting a scholarship to one lucky recipient to attend the local Medical School. The show closes with Crescendia opening a small white envelope to announce "The Plant is this year's deserving scholar!"

The Plant's ambitions are reawakened upon hearing this. It's leaves have become shiny and lustrous once again... people AND plants can have their dreams. This The Plant believes. The show closes with Crescendia opening a small white envelope to announce "The Plant is this year's deserving scholar!"

A Celebration of Creativity and Community in the Old North End
Saturday, July 31st, 2010 All Day All Night * Rain or Shine
Come out and play for a day that celebrates the creativity, diversity,
community, and commerce of Burlington?s most exciting neighborhood. We
do it North End style with disco veggie shortbus shuttles to move you,
an endless supply of music to get you groovin, lots of yummy local
food to keep you going, and a plethora of goodies to mix it up. Just
add art and, of course, bicycles. You are encouraged to come in
costume although you may just want to make it up as you go along,
stopping at any of the three craft fairs on the map this year. Maybe
you?ll find something on a visit to the One World Market showcasing
micro-businesses and artisans of the old north end?
Field Days, Battle of the Burgs, War of the Wards, North/ South
showdown will kick off the festivities at Battery Park with a little
friendly competition. Expect the water balloon toss to be particularly
difficult to predict this year! Decatur Street Carnival is a festive
place to get your palm read, look at art, sit in the middle of the
street, watch a local band. The House of Hildegard will be hosting a
benefit for the Kai Buddha fund with a, one of many, yard sale.
If you wish to roam, there is no shortage of things to see. Take a
historic or a permaculture garden tour, hear live music almost
anywhere, do some art-making and some art viewing; a regular plethora
of activity!

Gloria the Glorious (Madeleine)
Ruby Pink (Taylor)
Firecon (Malichi)
Townsperson - male (Ryan)
Townsperson - femail (Trish)
Crew:

Synopsis:
I. We find ourselves in the lair of the notorious Firecon, a totally rock and roll dragon living in the Nebulous dimension. Sword in hand he worships the lightning charged portal that allows him to fly through the skies of any world. While he rocks out playing air guitar on his shining sword, he contemplates which world he will penetrate to do his trouble making on this particular night. Mind made up, Firecon leaps into the portal to the middle ages on planet earth.
II. (Beach Boys- I get around) Firecon is flying through the skies looking for someone, something, someplace to conquer. Over the town of Fairlee, he spots the fairest castle in all the land. Within sleeps the fairest maidens of the land, three princesses named Gloria the Glorious, Elizabeth the Devilish Rose and Ruby Pink. With three evil, maniacal laughs Firecon lands and creeps into the castle. Standing in the sleeping quarters of the three juicy princesses, Firecon quips,"Before I make this castle mine I need to eat a midnight snack!"
III. His giant stomach growls and awakens the three slumbering maidens. Firecon puffs out his reptilian chest making himself look terrifying as the girls awaken. But they just stare at him with absolute enchantment. Firecon tries to look as intimidating as possible, but the girls giggle and coo "Awwww... isn't he just the most precious thing! What a darling dragon!" They aren't afraid of him, they are charmed! Firecon is insulted by their adoring insolence. He threatens them by insisting he is TOUGH! ROUGH! SCARY! DEADLY! "So, what are you doing here cutie pie?" They ask. Firecon states "I want to live here, this castle will be MINE!" Gloria says, "Well, that's just perfect! We have an extra room!" and Ruby says, "You can be our new roommate! This will be just great!" Growing weary of their kindness Firecon agrees saying "Oh, alright. Let's just call it a night and catch some Z's."
IV. Bright eyed and bushy tailed the next morning, the princesses call a house meeting to decide how they can help Firecon be the "perfect roommie". They decide that first of all he is going to need proper attire. (classical music plays) They all sit at sewing tables gracefully pulling the finest threads through the richest cloth. Firecon seems to be wielding a sword and piercing through a raw pile of material. Elizabeth holds up a new bodice that has gold ribbing down the front. It is exquisite. Ruby holds up a pink velvet tunic. Flawless. Gloria holds up a delicate lace woven blouse. Impressive! Firecon holds up a ramshackle, crooked, cut-up mess of rags. They decide to try cooking with him instead.
In the kitchen the girls are shifting and stirring and tasting and smelling. Elizabeth suggests more pepper would compliment her recipe. Next to her, breathing heavy with frustration, Firecon breathes in the pepper. He is falling aback trying to hold in a sneeze but with a flash of light, flames burst from his nostrils and mouth into the entire kitchen. Elizabeth exclaims "My dress is charred!" Gloria exclaims "My souffle is charred!" and Ruby exclaims, "The whole kitchen is burnt to a crisp!"
They decide the only thing left to do is dance.
V. In the castle ballroom the princesses brag to Firecon of their custom made, spring loaded dance floor. (waltz plays) Dancing in unison, 1-2-3-4-5-6 turn! The princesses try to show Firecon the customary dances of their land. In his stumbling dervish-like moves Firecon crashes right through the floor! SMASH! Giving up, the princesses decide to take their new roomie on a walk into town to social network.
Down in the town of Fairlee, a futuristic, American tourist examines the open sewage systems, archaic weaponry and aromas of the town square. The princesses attempt to make his acquaintance as he shakes a round of hands, he gets to Firecon and cries out in horror! Loving the fear, Firecon chases the screaming tourist around the square. Meanwhile a snooty friend of the princesses waltzes onto the stage. "Oh hello! I've been meaning to see you! I'd love to come to the castle to visit soon!" The princesses insist that their friend must come and meet their fabulous new roomie! The woman goes to shake hands with Firecon and is repulsed. She quickly turns up her nose and makes her exit rudely, displaying utmost disapproval to the princesses.
Tired, dejected and disappointed the girls decide to return home and call it a day.
VI. The next morning the girls wake up Firecon for a house meeting. They decide as a group that Firecon belongs in the open skies and dark crevasses of Nebulous. (Beach Boys- I get around)Bidding him farewell, Firecon flies away into the open air as the princesses wave goodbye whole-heartedly from below.
